Moving Slowly

Hey guys its Andrea.

I'm just writing to say that I'm guessing we wont be cooking or writing every day. Since school is starting soon, and we still have a couple weeks of summer left, I'm thinking we wont want to be writing blog posts. But, when Maya or i cook something from Julia Child's book, we will for sure write about it and tell the experience.

Hopefully, next weekend will be our next post. So keep in touch and keep following! Thanks.

Our First Recipe

WOWWY. That was kinda tough. We made chocolate Mousse, which turned out perfectly fine, but in the making, it was hard. The stress built as we continually blended different ingredients together trying to match the description of Julia's complicated image. But in the end, we did it! :)

(In this next section we will each write what we felt and thought about the cooking experience. We will do this without looking at what eachother write, so its personal. We'll do this for each recipe)

Andrea: That was hard for me. I HATE stress, and that was very stressful! It felt like Maya was hurrying, and i like to wait and make sure everything is perfect. I guess you could say i am a perfectionist. But I did learn a lot from this experience. I learned that you need to read through all of your instructions very carefully, or you will forget something important. (like we did; forgeting to put the coffee in the melting chocolate) But overall, it was fun to make this dish and me and maya did share some laughs.

Maya: I, for the most part, enjoyed this recipe. I found that all the tips and extra pieces of advice that Julia had to offer where very helpful. However, i did not like how much ciaos was in the room. We were grabbing various pans and cooking utensils at one moment and then sitting around waiting for things to cool, while our minds would be racing with the next steps to come. Over all though, i felt like this was a good experience. Not only in learning new things, but also in working out situations that would appear throughout our tasks.

Thanks for reading.

Starting the Project

Julie and Julia: A wonderful movie capturing the story of Julie Powell and her love of cooking, and of course, Julia Child.

Maya and Andrea: Two 14 year old girls who were inspired by this movie, and have started this blog in hopes to follow in Julie and Julia's footsteps.

So here we are. Its been about 45 minutes since we saw this great movie, and we are going to cook our way through Julia Child's The Way To Cook. Julie Powell cooked her way through Mastering The Art of French Cooking; we decided to head in a easier direction. And so, we start this blog just as Julie did:

THE CHALLENGE: 365 days. 491 pages of recipes. WOW.

Our first attempt? Chocolate Mousse. Yes, a hopefully simple dish, but we'll have to wait and see.
Lets get started!
